Recently I started a blog on the webpage of a daily paper here in the city and the topic I chose was to write about weird/interesting people that I see on the metro that I ride daily into work. My first entry was about someone who sat next to me wearing a face mask, and the general paranoia that comes with that (wondering if they are contagious, wondering what I have contracted, etc.)
The folks at the paper thought that my blog was so funny, they opted to start publishing these. At first I was ecstatic - actually put in a paper of some sort! And then the backlash started. Those who are forced to wear face masks due to cancer treatments had no qualms (rightfully so) about telling me how insensitive I was being.
So, I took the whole blog down, and I hope that the paper doesn't publish any more of it. I did write an apology entry that I hope they run.
I really was just trying to be funny, and while some people thought I was being funny, it's not really worth it to me if you're hurting the feelings of those who already feel outcasted because of something they can't help. I've always considered myself to be a tolerant person of those different than me, and I'm pretty mad at myself for demonstrating the exact opposite the first time something I write was published.
Guess there's only room for 1 Ali blog in this life, and I'll stick with this one.

And if those people don't understand that it's simply OBSERVATION, and take offense, well POO on them!
