All right, I'm in my 30s, but I'm determined to not look dowdy or frumpy, despite the fact that I'm occasionally a dowdy, frumpy law student. I've started an overhaul of the closet. Last night, I thought I went through everything, and I pretty much had two little voices standing on my shoulders every time I put on a piece of clothing:
Voice 1: Oh, this is cute.
Voice 2: You haven't worn this in 2 years.
Voice 1: I could wear this under a suit.
Voice 2: You did that last year. It kept riding up and you were totally uncomfortable.
Voice 1: True, but maybe I'll wear it with jeans.
Voice 2: No you won't.
Voice 1: But it would be cute over a bikini!
Voice 2: Seriously?! You're saving a too-small suit shirt to wear over a bikini? You need help. Cause you're a moron.
So, tonight, I went back through all the things I saved from last night and put lots of things that I thought I would keep in the giveaway pile. It was sad, because I kept thinking "Oh, but I could wear it like this!" every time I put something in the pile, but if I haven't worn it like "that" since I've had it (and I'm literally tossing some never-worn things) then I'll never wear it. Luckily, my fabulous mother and mother-in-law gave me giftcards to stores for my birthday and I can go out and get some new stuff.
So, I'm doing some research on good things that should be in everyone's wardrobe, classic pieces I should invest in, things that make me feel great or sexy, and I'm learning to throw away things that I don't wear/can't fit into/think make me look like a soccer mom.
